We Are an Evangelical Church

FPC Roseville is a conservative and evangelical church that worships Jesus Christ.

Conservative simply means that we are biblically based and use the Bible as our ultimate authority. Because we believe the Bible to be God's written Word, we look to the Bible for guidance and apply it to our daily lives.

Evangelical means "telling the Good News", which is what FPC believes to be its first calling. The Good News is that through Jesus Christ God has come near to us and revealed his Kingdom. He has forgiven our sins so that we can respond to him, accept his love, and join in his mission.

We believe that all people are in need of the good News. FPC's desire is to see people come to a personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ and, together with others in the community of faith, grow in spiritual maturity and active service to Him.

We Are a Presbyterian Church

First Presbyterian Church, Roseville is part of the national denomination called the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Affirming the ultimate authority of the Bible, Presbyterian beliefs are informed by many of the historic confessions created by the earliest church councils and during the Protestant Reformation (thus our theology is known as "reformed" theology). In most respects, Presbyterians are not significantly different other Christian churches that take the Bible seriously and hold to the basic tenets of the Christian faith. For a good summary, please see the Brief Statement of Faith and other theology references on the PCUSA website

Among the various distinctives of the Presbyterian Church is our organizational structure. The word "Presbyterian" is derived from a Greek word meaning "ruled by elders." FPC as a local congregation is administered by an elected board of elders, called the Session, which serves rotating three-year terms. Elders also share with pastors leadership authority in regional and national Presbyterian governing bodies.

We Are a "Confessing Church"

In recent decades, the national Presbyterian denomination has taken various actions and made various statements that concern many evangelicals because they seem to conform more to the norms of contemporary culture than to the authority of Scripture.

FPC Roseville has joined with other conservative evangelical congregations in a network of "Confessing Churches." These churches believe it is important for Presbyterians, at this time, to clearly affirm the following three items:

•That Jesus Christ alone is Lord of all and the way of salvation.

•That holy Scripture (the Bible) is the triune God's revealed Word, the Church's only infallible rule of faith and life.

•That God's people are called to holiness in all aspects of life. This includes honoring the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman, the only relationship within which sexual activity is appropriate.
